HTRK share the drifting, sensuous ooze of “Swimming Pool,” a slow dissolution into serenely uncertain and diaphanous depths, and its stunning B-side, “Puddles on My Pillow.”
As ever in their world, the states are polarised on “Swimming Pool” — romance versus lonerism, racing heart versus churning mind, charged simplicity versus disarming complexity — all untethered from meaning and reduced to pure, unfettered feeling. A dappled noir teeming with uncertainty, “Swimming Pool” is a momentary dose of calm, or perhaps a harbinger of tumult to come. Always in flux, always poised to melt, HTRK continue to sound out splendid turmoil as only they can.
